Adam Langley is the Resident U.S. Attorney in the Tokyo office of Hauptman Ham LLP, where he serves as a direct interface for Japanese clients needing real-time consultation and secure, non-electronic disclosures. With over 15 years of experience in patent prosecution and intellectual property strategy, Mr. Langley has built a reputation for advising inventors, companies, and institutions across a broad range of technical disciplines.
He has lived and worked in Japan since 2012 and joined Hauptman Ham in early 2021. His international experience includes managing the foreign filing division at a Japan-based international patent firm, giving him a deep understanding of the global patent process and how U.S. filings influence international prosecution strategies. Mr. Langley’s current work includes drafting patent applications for English-speaking inventors in Japan, advising companies on freedom to operate and design-around strategies, and preparing legal opinions of non-infringement and invalidity.
Mr. Langley earned his Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law, where he completed the Intellectual Property Track, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri. He is admitted to the Virginia State Bar, is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a registered Gaikokuho-Jimu-Bengoshi with the Tokyo Bar Association.
