Joshua Pritchett is an Equity Partner at Hauptman Ham LLP and a registered patent attorney with over 13 years of legal practice and more than 20 years of combined experience in intellectual property law. His practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications along with portfolio management for U.S. and international clients across a wide variety of technical fields.
Mr. Pritchett is well known in the international IP community for his skill as a patent practitioner and his practical guidance for navigating the complexities of U.S. patent practice. He has lectured for hundreds of hours on patent prosecution and portfolio development, delivering public seminars and in-house training for companies and law firms. His straightforward explanations, coupled with extensive experience, have earned him recognition as a subject matter expert in several jurisdictions around the world.
Mr. Pritchett is a managing partner of both the headquarters office of Hauptman Ham LLP—located just blocks from the USPTO—and the firm’s Tokyo, Japan office. His frequent travel to Japan, China, Taiwan, and other regions provides him with valuable insight into local practices, challenges, and expectations. This cross-jurisdictional experience allows him to help clients strategically establish, grow, and enforce strong global patent portfolios.
Before joining the firm as an attorney in 2011, Mr. Pritchett worked for nearly ten years at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he served as a Primary Patent Examiner. He earned his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center while working at the USPTO.
Mr. Pritchett brings a strong technical foundation in chemical engineering and materials science to his IP practice. Since joining Hauptman Ham LLP, he has worked across numerous fields—including telecommunications, semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, optics, and mechanical technologies—enabling him to provide informed and strategic guidance on patent prosecution, portfolio development, and international filings.
